July 11th we will be hosting the pdxWAKE event at the beach on Ross Island!

Come one come all! We will have all sorts of good giveaways, riding, mingling with pdxWAKE sponsors and members and chowing some gourmet hot dogs and burgers served by Weenies on the Water. Our sponsors will be bringing product and just hanging out. It will be a great time. Come out and hang with the crew and meet some new folks. Everyone is welcome and the event will be family friendly. If you don't have a boat we can arrange to get you back to the beach. A thread in the forum will be dedicated to the scheduling of pick ups.

When: Saturday July 11th all day starting at 10:00 AM
Where: Ross Island Lagoon ( launch at Willamette Park and head around the island and into the lagoon. The beach is in the back)
Who: You and anyone you care to invite! The more the merrier!

Look Out Ahead!!!
Are you aware that there is a proposal on the table to create a "No Wake" zone for the Holgate Channel, which is the area of the Willamette River behind Ross Island and in the quarry inside of Ross Island. This no wake zone would limit travelling at speeds over 5MPH. This area is one of the most popular areas of the entire Willamette River for boaters of all kinds. Water enthusiasts of all kinds including; wakeboarders, fisherman, yachters, skiers and the like use this area for their recreation. If this "No Wake" zone were implemented all motorized boating would be impacted.

We need everyone to stand up on this one! The Marine Board has been shutting down more and more PUBLIC waterways for use by recreational boaters.
Key Issues Concerning This Proposed Regulation:
  • Safety by pushing watersports to the main channel.
  • The false sense of security the rowers and kayakers who want to privatize this stretch will have when commercial vessels create larger wakes, since commercial vessels will be exempt.
  • Our taxes and licensing fees are spent to protect us and allow us to use the PUBLIC waterways.
  • Environmental impact is proven false as Ross Islands' fish and bird populations have actually been rebounding in positive ways over the last several years.
  • Impact on the local economy for dealers and businesses that sell watersport equipment.
  • How can a small group of 300 change the laws and affect the masses so they can push their own agenda?

Time to switch back to pdxWAKE!!!!!
Just like the ground hog is the sign of spring, the switch from pdxSNOW back to pdxWAKE is the sign that it is time to start riding.  We will start seeing more and more people coming back to the site and starting to hit the local waterways.  With that being said it is time to switch the site back to pdxWAKE.  We still have the pdxSNOW discussion forums available to view and use, but have moved the WAKE related topics to the top.  It was the first year of pdxSNOW we were excited to get it started and that side of the site will only grow like the pdxWAKE side has in the next years to come.  Welcome back those of you that have been hibernating. Let’s go ride!!!
Oregon State Marine Board passes legislation that affects you!
Did you know the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) just passed legislation that does not allow you to use your ballast, wedge or any wake enhancing devices on a 17 mile stretch of the Willamette River. That means no surfing also. Yes this is a public waterway and it will go into effect next year. Please login and share your opinion and any help you can offer in this issue. Click here...
