The Oregon State Marine Board convened again on 10/13 to revote on the Holgate Chanel/Ross Island Lagoon proposal of a No Wake zone. The meeting ended up in a compromise that will turn the Ross Island Lagoon (only inside the island) into a no wake zone. The Holgate Chanel will still be open to power boating activities. As a good start to reduce the traffic in the channel we are starting to spread the word that surfing, tubing and general high speed cruising should be done in the main channel (west side of the island). Save Boaters Rights Coalition exists for the sole purpose of protecting our rights as boaters and helping us preserve our rights to use our waterways. Did you know the Oregon State Marine Board (OSMB) just passed legislation that does not allow you to use your ballast, wedge or any wake enhancing devices on a 17 mile stretch of the Willamette River. That means no surfing also. Yes this is a public waterway and it will go into effect next year.
