-------- LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD...
------------------------------------------
Anyone and everyone that is concerned with the Holgate Channel and Ross Island Lagoon waterway usage should contact June LeTarte, Executive Assistant to the Director, Oregon State Marine Board as soon as possible!
She is collecting contact telephone numbers of representative members on the issue of the Holgate Channel and Ross Island Lagoon.
June LeTarte (503)378-2617 june.letarte@state.or.us mailto:june.letarte@state.or.us
The first round of review of the issue is going to be a telephone survey to discuss what's going on with the OSMB consulting firm JLA Public Involvement of Portland.
This is a perfect opportunity to have your voice heard on this issue.
Also, in keeping everyone up-to-date on what's going on with the OSMB, they are in search of a new director. The former director of the OSMB, Paul Donheffner, resigned near the end of January 2010 after spending 32 years with the board. He resigned over what he felt was "strong arming" by the Governor's office in regard to a particular body of water, Waldo Lake. Please read the Saturday, February 6 Oregonian, Metro Section, "Governor accused of grabbing Marine Board tiller".
It comes as no surprise here that these tactics have finally been exposed.
The Governor's office agenda has taken precendent over the wishes of the public and local jurisdiction in other situations around the state already.
It is interesting that proponents of the ban on Waldo Lake point to Donheffner's claims about the Governor's office to be a "red herring" since there was overwhelmingly high support from the public for the ban (as cited at the end of the Oregonian article above). Majority opinion by the public, the local governmental bodies, and law enforcement was ignored when dealing with the Upper Willamette River regulations for the Newberg to Wilsonville area. Special interest groups had the Governor's ear, so they got their way despite overwhelming opposition in this case. Obviously the common sense theme of "majority rules" as was cited for Waldo Lake only applies when the goal is consistent with the Governor's office agenda.
Finally, the OSMB sent out some random survey emails for comments on the selection process for a new director. Some of you may have gotten them.
Please take the time to complete the survey (it takes about 5 minutes).
Again, this is an opportunity to voice your opinions on what has been going on with the OSMB and the interference of them doing their job by the Governor and his office. Obviously, this is the biggest hurdle that the new director will have to face. If you didn't get one of the surveys, you should contact June LeTarte and ask for one.
Spring is fast approaching, and it will soon be time to be out enjoying the recreational activities that Oregon so abundantly provides. It would be a shame to continue to see these opportunities restricted by special interests. |

This is very interesting. I hope it exposes some of the issues we have been up against and initiates some change. I have sent June an email and suggest that we all do.
Would be great if they go back and look at these past two rulings and throw them out. |

Now that the seam has been cracked, let's get some crowbars and open this issue wide open.
I'm glad to see the Oregonian is printing these stories, it will wake some people up to the corruption from the governor's office. |
