I thought the same thing about the sign, but if you keep reading they mention the no WED towards the bottom of the sign. I am guessing they are at best going to give out warnings this year, and maybe start enforcing it next year?

Hmmm... I guess I'll have to read closer. |

The sign saying 100' from private docks and no WED's has been up at RL since Memorial Day weekend, believed the changed it that Friday.
A few weeks ago Clackamus County was out on there jet skis in forming people of the new law and for now just giving verbal warnings. From what I was told the sheriff is going to enforce the law currently via education rather then by giving tickets. This will probably change. I went by them fully weighted while wakeboarding and they just stared at us for a few minutes then left the area.
Yamhill county has gone by us several times fully weighted while wakeboarding and has only just waved at us.
Typically we try to stay above champoeg for wakeboarding and we are going to stay above the 219 bridge for surfing. Not just because of the law but that way we don't have rollers in the area we normally wakeboard in.
I think the majority of us who are out there being safe, cautious and curtious of others the sheriff is going to be nice too. They have other things to worry about then us using ballast. |

bignate,
I like your idea about using the area upriver from the 219 bridge for surfing. The only worry I have is that I've always been led to believe that stretch between 219 bridge and the silver bridge just down from the ramp is littered with deadheads on the side opposite the houses. I bent a prop in there once just drifting. So I've always stayed on the half of the river nearest the houses.
You know this stretch well. Is is safer on the non-house side that I am thinking??
Of course, there is always upriver from the ramp, which can be nice.
Thanks for your input. I swear I see you guys out every time we're out. We should stop and chat sometime. |

| Last year around this time someone removed several of the dead heads from that section of the river. There are still some there but it is safer then what it use to be. You can also see the majority of the dead heads right now too with how low the river is right now. The river will be rising a out 3.5 feet here within the next week as they put the boards up around the falls. In that area across from the houses there is a boat the will setup a slalom course in that area every once in a while. |

That's exactly what we did yesterday....wakeboard up river to the 219 bridge, surf above it, and wakeboard back down to the house. It actually works really well. We used the stock ballast going up and down the river, and filled the bags once past the 219 bridge. Saw the sherriff about 15 times and he did nothing but wave. |

It looks like almost all of the dead heads are gone between 219 and RL, I was quite surprised. There are normally a 1/2 dozen or more in that area just across from the houses.
We have just been going up river from RL, because we are almost exclusively surfing. I'm not a big fan of going that direction, but it has been pretty good so far this year. That one very shallow spot just south of the beach always makes me cringe when I go over it, yesterday it dropped down to under 6 feet on my depth finder. |

I don't think I have ever paid attention to a shallow spot just before beer can beach. Plus then again when we are up in that area we usually try and stay off towards ash island/ center of the river. You can go past Dell Smith's house, the big one up on the right as you are going up river past the beach and the island, and get a few good stretches of water through out the day. We've actually wakeboarded up past where the Yamhill connects into the Willamette. Just don't have a long stretch before you get to a rock island but that is a good place to hang out though because no one else is up there really. But fair warning if you do decided to go up past the Yamhill it gets shallow so best to do it once the boards are all in at the falls.
And speaking of the Sheriff yesterday, I really have no clue what they were doing out there. We were floating getting ready to change riders just down river from the water line bridge and see this guy surfing without a vest on and the boat didn't have a flag, they were using an orange life vest when they remembered. The sheriff went right by them and didn't stop them or say a word to them about either thing. Maybe they were called to respond some place else but I was surprised by it. |

That shallow spot is right where the water gets pretty ripply about 1/4 mile upstream from the beach, near the cables overhead. it dips down to about 60 feet then rockets up quickly to about 6 feet.
I've checked out the area by the Yamhill, but when I can see the bottom of the river I get really nervous. |

Nice dock! What part of the river are you on? I will have to look for your boat.
I know a lot of people who live on the restricted part of the river and they all run ballast. Most just watch for the sheriff boat, or go late in the day after the the sheriff has headed in.
I talked to the sheriff about enforcing the WED ban and was told "they can't enforce it because they don't know who is and who is not using WED's" Made me laugh because I can tell. Not sure if "probable cause" has anything to do with enforcement or not. |

| We are about dead center between the I-5 bridge and Memorial Park. As far as WED's, yeah, we run ballast all the time now. But that's mostly becuase we head out around 7-8am or after 7pm to avoid the tubers. By that time, you can see the sherriff a mile away, and just take it easy...that's if you see him at all. We are out about 3-4 times a week, but should be out more. PM me if you are looking for a pull or want a 3rd. |

| Yeah, we live on Miami. You must know my neighbor Keith if you like the foil. He had me try it a couple weeks ago, I couldnt really figure it out and went back to boarding. We're headed out tomorrow around 1pm, PM me if you're going to be around, I think its going to just be 3 or 4 guys from work going out. |

| You probably know the Kinney's. He is the owner of the company I work for. They don't have a boat, but it their yard that you basically walk thru to get to the "common" boat dock area. |

I just met him the other night. Is Scott his name? He had a huge BBQ last weekend for employees if we are talking about the same neighbor? Our property borders his to the west.
Also last weekend we had a sighting of one of the lead guys in support of "No WEDs". He was doing 35 mph in between the bridges on his ski. When asked why, he said that the neighbors "generally" think the No Wake 5 mph law applies only after 9 am. Hahhahaha....funny how the rules change to suit his needs. |
